Syracuse is located at the northeast corner of the Finger Lakes region. The city is home to many neighborhoods, which were originally various villages that joined the city over the years. As a result, Syracuse officially recognizes 26 neighborhoods within its boundaries. Some of these have small additional neighborhoods and districts inside of them as well.
Syracuse has a lively performing arts scene and notable cultural attractions. Live jazz music is the centerpiece of two annual outdoor festivals in Syracuse, the M&T Syracuse Jazz Festival, and Polish Festival as well as the CNY Jazz Arts Foundation’s Jazz In The Square Festival. The city also has numerous museums and galleries such as Everson Museum of Art, Erie Canal Museum, Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology and The Warehouse Gallery to name a few.
One of Syracuse’s major research universities is Syracuse University, located on University Hill.
Syracuse maintains over 170 parks, fields and recreation areas.
