Sacramento is the capital of California and the seat of Sacramento County. It is located in the north-central part of the state at the confluence of the Sacramento and American rivers. The city was named after the Sacramento River, which forms its western border. Spanish cavalry officer Gabriel Moraga originally named the river.

Tourists are drawn to Old Sacramento, a unique 28-acre National Historic Landmark District and State Historic Park. Old Sacramento is known for its dining, shopping, entertainment, historical attractions and world-renowned museums set within the time frame of the California Gold Rush.
