Known for the Battle of Bennington which took place during the Revolutionary War, Bennington County was founded in 1778 and is the oldest county in Vermont still in existence. It encompasses approximately 55 square miles and is home to 37,000 people. The county is located along the western edge of the Green Mountains and includes Bald Mountain which dominates the northeastern area of the town with its 2,900-foot summit. The county offers activities for all-ages including a museum, center for the arts, restaurants, shopping, a local brewery and numerous outdoor activities.
Rich in revolutionary history and home to a number of world class ski resorts, Bennington County has long been an attractive vacation destination for those looking to get away from the city and avoid the distractions of an urban lifestyle.
